‘Fans of Heroes and X-men should love it, as should fans of Maximum Ride’ - Jenny Davies, Borders

‘I disagree’ - Jacob Hussey, acclaimed book critic and film director

‘It was so good I never took it back to the library!’ Sean Lynch

Written by Anthony Horowitz but less popular than the Alex Rider series, the Power of Five series is based on big badass evil things trying to get back into the world through 'gates' which aren't actual gates as in the hingy openy things but sort of like portally things. They can only be stopped by five teenage kids called 'gatekeepers' who don't know each other (apart from two of them who are twins) and don't know they're special in any way apart from the strange things that happen around them. ...

Anthony Horowitz's spy series is in ways similar to the Cherub series, but in my opinion its better and probably inspired them. Its about a teenage spy who is blackmailed into working with MI6. The whole idea is that nobody suspects a child of being a spy. He grew up with his Uncle who made sure Alex was up for the job (black belt in Karate, experience in parachuting, diving and different languages etc.) before he was assassinated.

In my opinion the series should have ended after Scorpia ...

It's set in the future, when an ice age has stripped the planet bare. The book is set in a city that has a glass dome around it to protect its inhabitants from the artic temperatures.

The main character is a teenage boy who's father goes missing, and he is under suspiousion. He becomes a fugitive and is forced to run to the dark bowels of the city, the dark bottom of the city, the part furthest away from the daylight ...
