No that was written by Tim Burton. And directed by Henry Selick I think.

Yeah, that's apparent in Caroline. My sisters went to see it and she was terrifed by it! And they're adults!

there are some places which really do make me think of middle earth. tolkien has stated himself that he based the shire on the royal counties in britain, shire being the end of most of the counties across the channel. personally i loved how it was filmed in the movies but i think they would have been better filming it where it truly was set, in ireland and/or england with the sh** weather

I think New Zealand was a decent place to do it, it has the massive snow capped mountains, the wide open plains, and a healthy spattering of wooded areas. The only problem is the grass is supposed, in Rohan especially, to be green!

I never heard about that. I think they managed to convey the hobbit holes quite well in the films, exactly how they were described in the book.

Yeah, New Zealand grass is far too yellow. It's cool but the fields of Rohan are green and lush in the books. It's like Kerry grass. Except New Zealand grass is supposed to be yellow. Kerry grass is yellow because it's always dying.

(For any non-Irish people, Kerry is an Irish wasteland! For any Kerry people, complain and I'll hit you with a ton of Kerry Jokes so hard that you'll be unconscious. I already know your one corkman joke, so don't even try)
